Asymptomatic persons with positive genetic testing for a causal inherited mutation in the CDH1 gene face both an over 90% probability to have foci of diffuse gastric cancer and a ~75% lifetime risk of developing hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) syndrome [1]. These two arguments and improved short-term with minimally invasive surgery may convince young CDH1 mutation carriers to undergo prophylactic laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG).
