Cancer genome and tumor profiling: Promises and challenges in the clinical setting.

Chee-Seng Ku, MD, PhD.

Abstract
Tumor samples and liquid biopsies for tumor genomic and transcriptomic profiling in conjunction with circulating tumor DNA testing have recently been adopted into the clinical setting to improve decision-making for multi-modal systemic treatment. Whether these cost-effective approaches as compared to whole genome sequencing and RNA sequencing which require expertise, time consuming, and high cost are more realistic to be integrating into routine clinical practice is described in this perspective article.
