Since there is no abstract we provide the first sentence In a recent issue of the Journal Ann Surg Oncol Olson et al. [1] report on intraoperative margin assessment due the proposed frozen section analysis. This method reduced the rates of re-excision and local recurrence in patients treated with breast-conserving surgery (BCS). The authors emphasize the need for tumor free microscopic resection lines. Should the goal of negative margins always be considered or with the availability of effective adjuvant treatments it is of little importance with regard to overall survival?
